Barbershop Moestache, founded by Moes, has become an iconic spot at Hilvertsweg 101 in Hilversum. The history of this building is rich and diverse, reflected in the various functions it has served over the years.
Historical background
The building where Moestache is located has deep historical significance. Before and during World War II, a Jewish family lived here. Sadly, like so many others, they were deported to concentration camps during the war. In memory of this family, stones have been placed on the sidewalk, a sober and respectful tribute that keeps the horrific history alive.
After the war, the building was repurposed as a bakery, where the smell of fresh bread filled the neighborhood and played a central role in the daily lives of the residents. Later, the building was transformed into a hairdressing salon, which already gave a preview of the function it now has.
Transformation into Moestache
When Moes took over the building, he began a thorough renovation to breathe new life into it. With a vision to create something unique and luxurious, he transformed the space into what is now known as Barbershop Moestache. The barbershop exudes a luxurious retro style, a nod to bygone eras combined with modern elegance.
